He died 2 on 10 May 1863 in St. James' Hospital, Louisiana, USA, of wounds received in battle. He was buried 3 in The Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery Plot, Cedar Grove Cemetery, Hudson, New York.

18 Sept 1862, Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, “A” Company, 159th Infantry Regiment, New York Volunteers. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 14 Jan 1863 and transferred to “E” Company. The first serious engagement of this regiment was at Irish Bend, St Mary’s Parish, Louisiana on 14 April 1863

"(Wesley Bradley) was a 1st Lt in the 159th Infantry Regiment, died in the war and is buried in Hudson, NY. I decided that I had to locate his burial site and find out what I could about the 159th. Following is the regimental history as I received it. I submit the historical data of the 159th as a matter of interest.
The several companies of this regiment were raised in the counties of Dutchess, Kings and Columbia. Companies B, F, H, and K were recruited at Hudson by Col Molineaux and united with the others at East New York, and the remaining companies were formed from the men enlisted by Col. Nelson originally for the 167th, N. Y. The companies were recruited from Hudson, Stockport, Stuyvesant, Kinderhook, Claverack, Livingston, Chatham, Ghent, New Lebanon, Gallatin, Hillsdale, and Taghkanick, in Columbia County. Poughkeepsie and Pleasant Valley in Dutchess County.
The regiment was mustered into U. S. service at New York City November 1, 1862, for three years. In 1864, a new Company G, formed at Hudson, NY, replaced the old one which was consolidated with the others. The 159th left the New York State on December 4, 1862, and preceded to New Orleans, where it was assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 4th (Grover’s) Division, 19th Corps, Department of the Gulf.
Its first serious engagement was at Irish Bend, where it fought bravely and sustained a loss of 117 killed, wounded and missing, and mortally wounded, and Col. Molineaux among the severely wounded. This was by far the severest loss sustained by the regiment in this fight.
It was actively engaged throughout the long siege of Port Hudson, La., taking part in the first assault of May 27. Its loss during the siege was 73 killed, wounded and missing. After the surrender of Port Hudson, the regiment was engaged until the following year in post and garrison duty. In March 1864, in the 2nd Brigade, 2nd (Grover’s) Division, same corps, it moved on Banks’ Red River expedition, being lightly engaged at Alexandria, Mansura and Morganza.
In July it preceded to New Orleans, where it embarked for Washington, the first two divisions of the corps having been ordered to Virginia. On its arrival it joined the 10th Corps before Richmond and Petersburg, and was engaged with some loss at Deep Bottom in August.
It was actively engaged with the Army of the Shenandoah under Sheridan in the campaign against Early, losing 75 killed, wounded and missing at the Opequan, and 23 at Cedar Creek, where the gallant Major Hart was among the killed. The fighting I the valley having ended, the regiment was ordered to Savannah, Ga., and in March, 1865, was ordered to North Carolina, where it was temporarily attached to the 10th Corps again.
It was finally mustered out at Augusta, Ga., October 12, 1865, under command of Col. Waltermier. The regiment lost by death during service, 10 officers and 76 enlisted men killed and mortally wounded, 1 officer and 130 men died of disease and other causes; total deaths, 217.
My great uncle, Wesley Bradley, enlisted on September 18, 1862 at Hudson, NY as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was commissioned into “A” Company, 159th. On January 14, 1863 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and transferred to Company “E”. He died at St James Hospital, May 9, 1863, and is buried in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson, NY. His stone states that he “died of wounds received in battle.”
.In Cedar Park Cemetery there is a burial plot designated for Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Veterans. I found Wesley Bradley buried there. The site is on a side hill and enclosed by a wrought iron fence in front and a chain fence on the sides and back. There is a large flag pole and 2 civil war cannons on the site. All the stones are erect and legible. The plot is well maintained."

"Mrs Sarah E. Bradley, widow of Orville G. Bradley, late of Salisbury, died at the home of her son-in-law, Fred Reincke of Millerton, NY on Monday at 6:30. Diabetes was the cause of death. Several weeks ago, she had a very bad time with blood poisoning, the result of receiving a sliver in one of her fingers. From that she recovered but shortly afterward the above disease developed rapidly and her weakened condition hastened the end.
Mrs Bradley was a native of Millerton and Salisbury, a devout church woman; she was a working member of the Lakeville Methodist Church. A kind and indulgent mother and a good neighbor, she had nine children, four daughters and five sons. The funeral was held at the Methodist Episcopal Church, Lakeville, on Thursday at 2:00 pm.
